Tracking a head - mounted display in a room - sized environment withhead - mounted

چکیده
This paper presents our eeorts to accurately track a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) in a large environment. We review our current benchtop prototype (introduced in WCF90]), then describe our plans for building the full-scale system. Both systems use an inside-out optical tracking scheme, where lateral-eeect photodiodes mounted on the user's helmet view ashing infrared beacons placed in the environment. Church's method uses the measured 2D image positions and the known 3D beacon locations to recover the 3D position and orientation of the helmet in real-time. We discuss the implementation and performance of the benchtop prototype. The full-scale system design includes ceiling panels that hold the infrared beacons and a new sensor arrangement of two photodiodes with holographic lenses. In the full-scale system, the user can walk almost anywhere under the grid of ceiling panels, making the working volume nearly as large as the room.

متن کاملVr-smart - a Virtual Reality System for Smart Home Environments
Virtual reality (VR) technologies and systems have the potential to play a key role in assisting disabled inhabitants of smart home environments with instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). While immersive environments have useful applications in the fields of gaming, simulation, and manufacturing, their capabilities have been largely untapped in smart home environments. We have develo...
متن کاملINPRES (intraoperative presentation of surgical planning and simulation results) – augmented reality for craniofacial surgery
In this paper we present recent developments and pre-clinical validation results of our approach for augmented reality (AR, for short) in craniofacial surgery. A commercial Sony Glasstron display is used for optical see-through overlay of surgical planning and simulation results with a patient inside the operation room (OR). For the tracking of the glasses, of the patient and of various medical...
متن کاملCharacterization of Angular Error in Magnetic Head Tracking
The head tracking system in a helmet mounted display (HMD) play a vital role in obtaining its full functionality. It tracks and calculates the current location and coordinates of the pilot’s head movements and updates the head movement’s location in real time. They provide accurate information to the flight computer about the orientation of the head of the pilot with high degree accuracy and ex...
متن کاملStructured Visual Markers for Indoor Pathfinding
We present a mobile augmented reality (AR) system to guide a user through an unfamiliar building to a destination room. The system presents a world-registered wire frame model of the building labeled with directional information in a see-through heads-up display, and a three-dimensional world-in-miniature (WIM) map on a wrist-worn pad that also acts as an input device. Tracking is done using a ...
